The strategy consultancy firm Oliver & Ohlbaum Associates states that “some people will make good money from FAST in Europe” but they will need to do so without many of the advantages that U.S. FAST enjoys. This presentation warns that European FAST faces much higher competition from local free-to-air, currently lacks high-profile films and shows, cannot notably improve on the advertising viewing experience vs FTA, and requires content rights management across 50+ markets instead of one. It then outlines the opportunities in this scenario: what is needed for FAST success in Europe, markets that are more inviting than others (and why), where partnerships make sense, and the aggregators who could dominate.
