BT Group’s Multicast Assisted Unicast Delivery (MAUD) is designed to bring the bandwidth and cost saving benefits of multicasting to live streaming without the headaches associated with first-generation multicasting initiatives (e.g. the need for direct, bespoke integrations between a content owner and every network operator they work with, and changes to the client application). Last year Colin Phillips explained how it works. This year he returns to provide an update on the experiences of MAUD in action. You will hear how MAUD has worked for CDN partners and an update from the next stage trialling with content partners and end users. How much peak live event bandwidth is being saved in practice? Can we confirm that live streaming can be scaled seamlessly without the need to expand CDN hardware caches?
