Description

This discussion explores the technology and architectures that support more streaming overall, increased concurrency for live streaming, and streaming-only TV delivery. We consider the roles of unicast, multicast, multicast assisted unicast and even peer-to-peer video streaming, and review the evolution of CDNs. What contribution can AI make – including in video processing and the resource this function uses? How much can we reduce network traffic and peak capacity requirements, and what are the implications for cost, energy consumption and the carbon footprint from streaming? We ask our panellists if we have reached an inflection point when the cost of streaming plummets at the same time that reliability and latency improve. If the answer is yes, what are the implications for content owners, consumers and the migration from broadcast to streaming?
