YouView is the television OS/UX provider that powers the discovery and viewing experience for new streaming platform, Freely. In this discussion we explore the technology advantages and challenges associated with the innovative platform YouView has helped its operator client, Everyone TV, to develop: the operator HbbTV OpApp running on Freely partner Smart TVs. There is a special focus on how an operator becomes the default live/linear TV provider on third-party hardware using the HbbTV OpApp. This conversation will focus on the importance of collaboration when launching a new platform like Freely, and will consider the technical complexities and how they are concealed from the end user when presenting streamed channels in a full linear programme guide, including when (in the case of Freely) those streamed channels could be mixed with broadcast-input channels.
