Avelon Thompson joined EssenceMediaCom in 2008. Her genuine passion for people, inclusion, and belonging prospered and led her to transition to her role of DEI Business Partner for MediaCom UK in 2017, at a time when DEI was not as widely focussed on across the industry, Avelon championed the way within the agency. 

 

Now in the role as Head of DEI for EssenceMediacom and EssenceMediaCom X focussing on equity and systemic change, Avelon is dedicated to ensuring not only EssenceMediacom and EssenceMediacom X, but the whole industry is a place everyone feels they belong and can thrive.  She helped to launch EssenceMediacom’s Mental Health Ally scheme, which has now expanded globally in 47 markets, 60 cities, and with over 200 trained allies. Avelon has implemented initiatives such as a Sponsorship programme for underrepresented groups, Safe Space Allies, and menopause and fertility community spaces, training for staff on awareness and gaining accreditations.  

 

Outside of EssenceMediacom Avelon is on the Board for Sutton Music trust, providing DEI support. She is also an advisory board member of Shaping the Future: a manifesto shaping the way for workplace mental health. Avelon also loves spending time with her two young sons and husband.
